Water & Sanitation

Many diseases are preventable through good sanitation. MYKAPS works with villages to ensure that they have good, clean water to drink, and that they have sufficient awareness of sanitary issues to allow them to resist the water related diseases.

Nirmal Grama Puraskar Yojane

MYKAPS was successful in preparing two Grama Panchayats (village level government bodies) to become eligible for receiving the Nirmal Grama Puraskar Award for effective village wide sanitation. These Grama Panchayats have received the awards from the President of India in a special function held at Pune.

Eco Sanitation

The eco-san in brief means ecological sanitation which is eco-friendly.  Eco-sanitation aims at using the human solid waste and urine for agricultural purposes.   This requires storage of human solid waste and urine in separate compartments which are dry and water proof.  The human waste has potash and nitrogen which is useful for agricultural crops.  The eco-sanitation requires minimum water.  MYKAPS has covered tribal hamlets namely; Kebbepurahadi, Alanahally, Seegawadi, Hosakeresunda, Kalaiahnahalla entirely under eco-sanitation.  In other villages namely; Kandegala, Uyyambally and Marballyhundi in Mysore District eco-sanitation is partly covered.

Integrated Drinking Water Management Project

MYKAPS is associated with Arghyam through MYRADA. This project creates and manages a drinking water system to cater for all the domestic water requirements of a village including washing, cooking, drinking, bathing, washing up, cleaning of the home surroundings, and use for animals which are termed as Seven Avatars. Two villages namely; B.Matakere SC/ST Colony and Nemmanahally are covered under this project, where activities such as eco-sanitary toilets, individual sanitary latrines, institutional toilets, individual rainwater harvesting systems and OHT with piped water supply have been implemented by MYKAPS.  Water meters have been fixed for the water supplied from the OHT for volumetric measurement to ensure that the community uses less of water from OHT and more from rainwater harvesting structures.

Rainwater Harvesting

MYKAPS is involved in establishing rainwater harvesting systems in schools and individual houses. MYKAPS has established rainwater systems in 24 schools of H.D.Kote area under the Suvarna Jala project. 25 rainwater harvesting systems have been established in individual households in cooperation with Raleigh International.
