Savayava Krishikara Sangha (SKS)

The organic farmers association is an association promoted by MYKAPS in H.D.Kote Taluk consisting of farmers practicing organic farming.   135 farmers have taken membership in the association.  The total acreage held by these farmers under organic farming is 587 acres which covers 10 villages.  Cotton crop is mainly cultivated by these farmers under organic farming conditions.  The other crops grown are vegetables, ragi, sugarcane, turmeric, banana, watermelon, kanal rice, horse gram, lablab, black gram, green gram and chillies.  32 association members have obtained organic certification.   The president of the association has been awarded Krishi Pandit Award from the Govt. of Karnataka.  The farmers association awards the best performing organic farmers with the fund created by the association.  The organic farming practice is widely being accepted by the farmers in H.D.Kote with motivation from the organic farmer’s association.  The association is assisting the farmers to market their produce to agencies such as M/S.Appachi Cotton Mills, Coimbatore, Pro-Nature, Bangalore and Era-Organic, Bangalore.
