Community Managed Resource Centres

Community Managed Resource Centres (CMRCs) are independent, local level resource centres designed to assist and guide the communities they are located in. A typical CMRC will support 30 villages, comprising a population of about 10000 people consisting of 150 Community Based Organizations (CBOs).

16 CMRCs have now been created, and each has its own manager and board, who guide its activities.

CMRCs perform activities such as:

  • Guiding self help groups (sAgs) and linking them to banks and Micro Financing Institutions such as Sanghamithra
  • Conducting training (computers, health, forming and managing of sAgs)
  • Forming, training and supporting watershed development groups
  • Assisting people to deal with utility organizations (setting up gas connections, alternative energy devices, solar systems etc.)
  • Highlighting available government schemes and assisting people to avail the benefits such as housing, toilets, SGSY, Social Welfare Schemes etc.
  • Health awareness through health camps and trainings
  • Organizing health camps such as eye camps, dental camps, general health camps etc.

CMRCs can be seen as implementing and supporting the ongoing activities MYKAPS is involved in.
